John Miller’s blown and assembled glass sculptures are a celebration of Americana, capturing the whimsy and nostalgia of fast food, diners, car-culture, and 1950s lifestyles. Larger than life hamburgers, fries, key chains, drinks, wings, donuts, and tools characterize his work. Miller first studied glass at Southern Connecticut State University in 1987, and then in 1997 earned an MFA in sculpture from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He has served as an instructor at Pilchuck Glass School since 1993 and today continues to travel extensively lecturing and teaching. He exhibits his work internationally and is represented by Habatat Galleries in Royal Oak, Michigan and William Traver Gallery in Seattle, Washington. He is currently an associate professor of glass at Illinois State University.
Miller’s work is represented in the collections of the Tacoma Museum of Glass, Chrysler Museum of Art, Museum of Arts and Design in NYC, Pilchuck Glass School, and the Museum of American Glass in Millville, New Jersey. Miller’s work was included in the MMA organized glass exhibition Fifty by Fifty, guest curated by Benjamin Moore and Stephen Rolfe Powell.
