10 finalists announced for $50,000 Bennett Prize for women figurative realist painters

PITTSBURGH, Pa. Nov. 30, 2020 – Today 10 women from across the country who paint in the figurative realist style were named finalists for the $50,000 Bennett Prize, the largest art award ever offered solely to women figurative realist painters, and now in its second round of awards.

The 10 were selected from among 674 entrants, a number that surpasses the entrants in 2018, the inaugural year of The Prize. Endowed at The Pittsburgh Foundation by art collectors Steven Alan Bennett and Dr. Elaine Melotti Schmidt, The Prize is designed to propel the careers of women artists. More…

FESTIVAL OF WREATHS

The Muskegon Museum of Art’s annual holiday event, the Festival of Trees is making some adjustments. This year, in consideration of community health, the MMA staff and FOT volunteer committee decided to spread the holiday spirit into downtown. The MMA, collaborating with downtown businesses and organizations, is organizing a new version of the annual holiday event – Festival of Wreaths – a wreath walk event that people can enjoy from the sidewalk or street from November 24 through December 6, 2020.

• Adjusted Hours: Tuesday – Sunday, 11AM – 4PM, closed Mondays
• FREE admission on Thursdays and on 2nd Saturdays of the month

MMA Joins MUSEUMS FOR ALL

MMA offers free admission for families receiving food assistance

The Muskegon Museum of Art has joined Museums for All, which allows families and individuals receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits to visit the Muskegon Museum of Art free of charge. Guests must present a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card to receive free admission. Up to four guests per card, visiting in one group, are allowed free admission.

POSTCARD SALON ARTIST INFORMATION

This year’s Postcard Salon, rescheduled from earlier this year, set a record with around 1,700 cards by nearly 600 artists on display. Thank you, to all the participating artists, for your support, fine work, and for your patience waiting for the show and sale to arrive. Thank you to all those who purchased artwork from the show!

Art Pickup through Dec. 30
Artists may pick up unsold artwork through December 30, 2020. The museum is open 11 am – 4 pm Tuesdays through Sundays, and closed on Mondays. Cards left after December 30, 2020 become the property of the MMA.
