Friends of Art ARTSMARTS!

April 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Design Series | Spring 2021

The Nature of Design with Paola Antonelli

Guest Speaker Paola Antonelli: Senior Curator of Architecture & Design at the Museum of Modern Art, as well as MoMA’s founding Director of Research & Development

Paola Antonelli’s goal is to promote the understanding of design until its positive influence on the world is universally acknowledged. Her work investigates design’s impact on everyday experience, often including overlooked objects and practices, and combining design, architecture, art, science and technology. From traffic lights to screens of ATMs, from bike lanes to video games, from coffee pots to street benches—everything is designed. People are the clients and the ultimate judges of all these objects’ quality and soundness. Because of its ubiquity, however, design can also lead to a deeper understanding of our responsibilities as citizens and humans. With this lecture, Paola Antonelli will highlight the role of design in shaping behaviors and help build a better future for all.

The Muskegon Friends of Art will present an ARTSMARTS! series of virtual Zoom webinars focusing on design this spring. Admission is a free benefit for Friends of Art members. Friends of Art members will receive an email invitation several days before each presentation. Friends of Art annual membership is $25. To join, contact FOA President Tricia Lamiman at tlamiman@gmail.com.

ARTSMARTS! Presentations will only be available for the live viewing on the date and time of the presentation. The video and audio of the ARTSMARTS! Presentations will NOT be recorded or shared on social media.
