Dale Chihuly is an iconic figure in studio glass, and a household name around the world. His early work in glass, including the founding of the Pilchuck Glass School, has informed the careers of artists around the world. Chihuly was blinded in one eye in 1976, and dislocated his shoulder in 1979, ending his ability to physically blow glass. At that point, he hired assistants to create his works under direct supervision.
