Art Lecture: The Colorful Women of Disney Animation
PENCILS, PENS & BRUSHES – The COLORFUL Women of Disney Animation with Author, Historian & Filmmaker | Art Lecture with Mindy Johnson
The early decades of Disney animation were filled with many female faces: Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty and more. But the women who helped create those characters and the movies that featured them have often gone as unrecognized as Cinderella at the prince’s ball. Join author/historian Mindy Johnson for a vibrant and colorful presentation as she changes this scenario and introduces audiences to the remarkable women whose pencils, pens & brushes redefined Disney Animation and beyond. An all-ages event / children 8 and up Mindy Johnson is a multi-award-winning author, historian, filmmaker and educator. A recipient of the June Foray “Annie” Award for her significant contributions to the Animation industry, Mindy is also an Academy Film Scholar with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences – the first woman to recieve this award for animation. Mindy is the author of several game-changing books including her landmark volume Ink & Paint the Women of Walt Disney’s Animation and her forthcoming book The “Only” Woman Animator – Women at the Dawn of an Industry (2026).
