Artist Talk with Beth Lipman & Unveiling Reception of “One’s Self I Sing”

The Muskegon Museum of Art invites you to the official unveiling of One’s Self I Sing, a new site-specific sculpture installation by artist Beth Lipman, on Thursday, July 17 at 7 PM.

Suspended in the museum’s central atrium, One’s Self I Sing is a large-scale, two-story sculpture crafted from glass, wood, metal, and gypsum. This extraordinary artwork explores themes of time, nature, culture, and human impact on the environment, offering a visually powerful experience that evolves from every angle.

Described as an “exploded” still life, the sculpture invites reflection on Deep Time and the Anthropocene, while also incorporating subtle nods to the museum’s permanent art collection. Visitors can view the sculpture from both floors, where its braided suspension cables suggest both growth and decay, connecting past, present, and future.

As part of this special event, Beth Lipman will offer an artist talk sharing insights into her creative process and inspiration.
