Norwood Viviano: Re-Cast Cities

December 15, 2022 – March 12, 2023

Norwood Viviano combines 3D computer modeling and printing technology with glass blowing and casting to explore the dynamics of community and manufacturing. His semi-transparent cast glass sculptures re-create cities as three-dimensional maps merged with symbols of industry. Miniature cities span steel girders, tabletops, stacks of newspapers, and a collection of tumblers, revealing the ways in which a city’s industry defines its character, both physically and culturally.

This exhibition will be the largest showing of Viviano’s Re-Cast Cities series to date and will include the premiere of Re-Casting Muskegon along with loans from the Grand Rapids Art Museum and the Toledo Museum of Art.
